The Israelite House of David was a religious community established in Benton Harbor, Michigan in 1903. The sect had many interesting tenets and business ideas during its history, but it is best remembered for its baseball team which supposedly invented the pepper game and was called “Jesus’ Boys” by Satchel Paige.
I wonder how they would have fared in this year’s playoff season. Perhaps if Kevin Youkilis could be persuaded to grow out his goatee and join the team they could give the Red Sox a run for their money!
